A total of 36 sailors participated in the Laser Open Day held at the club on Sunday 5th. September. Under the watchful eye of Thomas Chaix, Nick Walsh and a group of 6 volunteers, 12 lasers were launched in superb 15 knot winds.

The September League for Optimists started in splendid conditions yesterday. Sunshine and a gentle 8 to 10 knot breeze provided ideal conditions, particularly for the large number of improving sailors in the Copper fleet. Indeed the race officer, Nick Walsh, decided that the conditions were so good that he ran an extra race.

The 2010 Cobh to Blackrock Race yesterday (Sat) was an outstanding success and no bigger compliment than to say it was reminiscent of the event some twenty years ago as it had approximately 100 boats on the water. The day was a scorcher and while the wind may have been a little flukey, nonetheless the flotilla of mixed classes of all descriptions with happy families on board were determined to make the best of the wonderful day on the water. The flotilla was accompanied by many RIBS and practically any other sort of craft one could think of.

The Afloat.ie/Irish Independent Sailor of the Month Award for August has been awarded to the Irish Team, winners of the Rolex Commodores' Cup 2010. The team was made up entirely of yachts from the Royal Cork Yacht Club. Team Captain, Anthony O'Leary's Antix, David Dwyer's marinerscove.ie and Rob Davies Roxy 6 skippered by Andrew Creighton.
Many congratulations must also go to Barry Rose and the entire management team and their support group for this outstanding achievement.

The SCORA (South Coast Offshore Racing Association)Championships will take place out of Cove Sailing Club on September 25th/26th. From September 24th any competitors travelling to this event and who will be entering the O’Flynn Exhams Solicitors Autumn Regatta the following week will be provided with berthage or moorings free of charge at the Royal Cork Yacht Club to the end of the Autumn Regatta.
The Notice of Race (NOR) for the O’Flynn Exhams Solicitors Autumn Regatta at the Royal Cork Yacht Club is now available on the Royal Cork Website. The Regatta will commence on Sunday, October 3rd and will continue the exciting format that was used for the first time last year. This proved to be such a success it was copied by most of the major clubs around the country.
