Introducing your 2012 Cruising Committee

Welcome to the Royal Cork Cruising home page and what a year we have in store for you! Traditional cruises, fun family day cruises, kids adventure days, beach barbeques, training sessions, cruising dinners and introducing the “Royal Cork Skippers Club”, a monthly meeting open to all members with guest speakers on topical issues. There will be a strong focus on family involvement this year. We are planning a number of short “Adventure days” where members kids can learn the basics of boat handling and navigation in a relaxed and fun environment. Cruising Muster to the City Update – 17/18th September

The Final Cruising Muster for this year takes place on 17th 18th September at Cork City Marina.   The Harbour Commissioners have waived marina berthing charges for Saturday night and allowed us to organise a barbeque on the pier for the event.

The Shortest Cruise of the year! – Sept 17/18th

Our final cruising muster for 2011 will take place on the weekend of Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th of September at the Marina Pontoon at the Port of Cork. This event is open to all boats Motor and Sail. Visitor Moorings – Cork South Coast

The following additional information has been gathered on visitor moorings along the South Cork coast :   Visitor moorings under the care of Cork County Council are due to be checked this month and necessary maintenance will be carried out quickly according to the County Engineer’s office in Schull.   The following is a list of the moorings.  However, we have no knowledge of the reliability or security of these moorings and appropriate caution should be taken.

Cruise to Glandore – Heroes, singing and a stale pint!

A great cruise in company took place on the June Bank Holiday weekend.  8 boats made the cruise and 30 people attended the meal that evening at the Glandore Hotel where Helen Guinan’s birthday was also celebrated.   The food was excellent and for most people there was a great party atmosphere.   However, just as Paul Hassett and the Rear Admiral were about to tuck into their dinner, a message came that Paul’s boat Oryx was drifting solo out the harbour having slipped her moorings.

Cruising Survey – Update

Over 70 members completed the survey which in itself is a fantastic response, great comments and suggestions from many of you. The committee are still analysing the results and will be publishing a summary report in the next couple of weeks. The full detailed report will be available upon request. Congratulations to Liam Spence who is the winner of the €25 restaurant credit. Thank you to everyone who completed the survey.

Safety Notice – Glandore Visitor Moorings – Update

Update – 8th JuneThe Irish Naval Yacht Squadron divers checked and subsequently used the two remaining moorings over the weekend and deemed them to be safe. —–It has been brought to our attention by the Glandore Harbour Yacht Club that the County Council/Board Failte Visitor Moorings are NOT good to use. Of the original six that were laid four have gone adrift over the winter, leaving the remaining two suspect. The Union Hall County Council Pier Constable is advising sailors not to use these moorings.
