Light, Light Baby

National 18′s Wednesday Night 16/5/12 Report

Best fleet to date with 11 boats getting on the water on Wednesday night and a good illustration of how competitive this gang are. A light sometimes fluky South Easterly breeze prevailed for the evening which saw a great shuffle in the placings. OD Keith McKeown provided 2 league counting windward leeward races and a crews race with a finish at Curraghbinny Pier. Race 1 saw Ewan Barrys Good Bad & Ugly 362, who had travelled from Monkstown put in a very convincing bullet on his season’s debut (Kieran, why did you sell her?), followed by Peter O’Donovan Muchadoo 351 who impressively climbed from the back of the fleet and third Colin Chapman Aquaholics …

Cork Week calling on all Volunteers

With our biennial Cork Week 2012 event just around the corner, we are again calling on our reliable members to yet again help run this very successful event. Cork Week 2012 begins on Saturday 7th July with the new ‘AllAboard@CorkWeek – Shoreside Family Fun’ family weekend which will take place on the Saturday and Sunday.  There promises to be a great line-up of activities including interactive sea creature adventures shore side, maritime workshops and a food fair and market in the Club’s Tented Village.
Racing takes place from Monday 9th to Friday 13th July and promises to be an action packed week of competitive racing with yachts travelling from as far afield as Hong Kong.

RCYC Sailor Douglas Elmes wins 2012 Optimist Trials

RCYC Sailors had huge success after six days racing held in varied conditions over two weekends.

Douglas Elmes emerged as an early leader in the first leg of the trials at the National Yacht club Dunlaoighre. He was closely followed by his fellow club members Sophie Browne, Harry Durcan, Jil Mc Ginley , Harry Whitaker and Peter Mc Cann.

The second leg was held last weekend in Waterford Harbour sailing club. Although Douglas Elmes soon became the overall leader , the other four spots for the top five positions and thus a place in the team to represent Ireland at the Optimist worlds in Dominican Republic came down to a nail biting finish on the last day.

RCYC won out in the end with four of the top five places going to RCYC …

ICRA ISSUES FINAL CALL

2012 Brewin Dolphin Commodores’ Cup

Given the limited time remaining for any competitive contenders or teams to prepare for the 2012 Brewin Dolphin Commodores’ Cup, the Irish Cruiser Racing Association is issuing its final call for potential candidates not already in discussions with ICRA to get in touch to discuss their plans for the forthcoming event. ICRA welcomes discussions with all interested potential Irish team and team members, including those representing regional, youth, or other interests.
