A total of 30 boats competed for the title of RS Feva National and Open Champion in Cork Harbour this weekend. The overall winner, with five 1st places, was RCYC’s David Whitaker with Jil McGinley crewing. The event was sponsored by Funboats Ltd. Nine races were set over three days by Race Officer Richard Leonard, with racing mainly on the Curlane bank. Despite challenging visibility on the first day, racing conditions were good all weekend, with winds strong, but not overpowering. RCYC boats perfomed strongly in their home waters, taking the first three podium positions.
Whitaker takes 3 Firsts in RS Feva Nationals Day 1
After the first days racing in foggy conditions, the fleet is led by David Whitaker and Jil McGinley, RCYC with Marc and Sarah Cudmore, RCYC in second place, followed by Sam McGinley and Richard McGinley, RCYC. 3 raced were sailed in foggy conditions with good wind. David Whitaker and Jil McGinley took first position in all three races. The fleet will be split later today into gold and silver fleet, and with prizes to compete for in different age groups as well. Feva Nationals Kick Off This Friday
The RS Feva Nationals kick off this Friday, 12 August in the Royal Cork Yacht Club and run until Sunday 14. The event is open to all Feva sailors of all ages and standard, and is well worth competing in with 3 races each day, and bar-b-que on Friday evening followed by a special trip to the historic Fort Camden, and a Class Dinner on Saturday evening.
