Optimist Trials Start Well for Royal Cork Sailors

The first weekend of the Optimist Trials was held over last weekend in Crosshaven. Five Royal Cork Sailors are in the top 10 after three days of excellent sailing in Cuskinny and the Curlane Bank.

For a number of years the club has had the largest representation in the 70 strong invited fleet and this year was no different with 17 RCYC squad sailors racing. The squad and their coaches Stefano Cherin and George Kenefick had been presented with red racing vests after registration on Thursday and this helped viewers and coaches to follow the action on the water.

Optimist Trials Begin

The Optimist trials began in ideal conditions in Cuskinny today. 5 Royal Cork sailors are in the top 10 after the first three races.

Optimist Hibernation season over – time to get going.

The overall plan for Club Oppies between here and the start of the summer has been issued. For the next 6 weeks we will be running two squads as follows – the Trials Squad and the Junior Squad. After that we will start the beginner training. There is information about league racing, parents rota, an information evening and the trials.

Brendan Lyden Wins at Kinsale

Brendan Lyden won the Kinsale Optimist Christmas Regatta at the weekend. Coming into the final race, any of about 6 sailors could have won the event but Brendan came out top thanks to a final second in the fleet of 35 young sailors who braved the cold conditions.…

Oppie End of Season Prizegiving and Supper

Oppie End of Season Prizegiving and Supper

The Optimist Prizegiving and Supper held last Friday at the club was a great success. 76 sailors took part in the 77 races run by the class locally during the season from April to the end of October with many sailors competing in over 40. The overall results are here.

The Admiral was on hand to present the prizes.
